"Our life problems contain the seeds of a soul purpose that wants to be realized."

ABOUT HAL

I am a depth-oriented psychotherapist who has been practicing in San Francisco for thirty years. I work within the Jungian tradition.

I work well with people who have a spiritual orientation, artists and those uncertain whether to perceive themselves as artists. I am an HSP, that is, one with the “highly sensitive person” temperament. For more information about this innate personality factor see my HSP entry under Areas of Expertise on this website.

My educational background includes art history and fine arts, an M.Div. from Union Theological Seminary in New York City, an M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley, and a Ph.D. integrating depth psychology and New Testament interpretation from the Graduate Theological Union.

I have spoken and presented workshops on both the west and east coasts, and for over forty years I have worked with the Guild for Psychological Studies (www.guildsf.org) offering seminars in soul work that integrate Jungian depth psychology, spiritual and mythological themes, meditation, body awareness, and expressive arts for the sake of deepening consciousness.
